Mother’s Day Activity Ideas

Although we should celebrate our mothers every day, it’s a given that we still want to celebrate them on Mother’s Day. The only time of the year (aside of their birthday) where they get to be pampered by you. I have the tools to make their day extra special depending on their personality.

Manis & Pedis

Do you have a Mother who is often standing too much on her feet due to work? Well, look no further. She might need an excellent foot massage to release the tension she has. And while you’re at it, don’t be cheap and let her get her nails done too. You don’t have to get the expensive package for her, but remember, it’s her day, let her pick the color and package she wants.

Shopping

Perhaps your mother is a fashionista. You know she loves, and I mean she loves to buy clothes. Take her out on a shopping spree. What better way to pamper your mother than by taking her to her favorite store and purchase new outfits for her. If you’re not a shopper, buy her a gift card to her favorite store.

Maybe she’s not a fashionista but loves to cook and bake? buy her a new dish set or a nice expensive stand mixer you know she has been eyeing on.

Go wine tasting

Want to make your mother’s day extra special? Head to a nearby winery for a Mother’s Day tasting. It’s fun if your mom is a wine lover. Don’t forget to buy a bottle or two after the trip as a souvenir. Not a wine lover? no problem, head to brewing company and have her taste different beers

Book a trip

Literally! Maybe your mom needs a little getaway weekend to release some stress. Book a hotel and stay there for the weekend followed by mimosas on the pool. You can also check and see if the hotel offers spa massages.

Museum/Art gallery

Some of us have mothers that have a passion for art. Take your mom out to an art gallery or museum. Who knows, she might need a new piece for her living room.

Cooking class

Your mom might be the greatest chef ever, however, taking a cooking class together is relaxing and at the same time delicious. I mean, who doesn’t love food right?

Makeover

What woman doesn’t like being pampered? Is your mom looking for a new look? Maybe a new hair color? New make up? Book her an appointment where she can get her hair done, after all, summer is here, and her hair can use a few highlights. As a plus, you can always buy her a gift certificate to microblade her eyebrows or get her lash extensions.

Tattoo/Piercing

Is your mom a rebel without a cause? Well, she can use a new tattoo or a new piercing to match her fearless side. As a plus, ask if she wants to get matching tattoos with you.

Photoshoot

What mother, and I mean what mother doesn’t like pictures of her whole family? book an appointment at JcPenney’s or hire a photographer to take pictures of herself and her grandkids.

Movie/Dinner

If your mom is simple and does not like the chaos, take her out to dinner and a movie. Don’t forget to buy her a card, flowers, and chocolate. Believe it or not, our mothers love to feel special too.

7 fun things to do over spring break

Nothing sounds better than the sounds of the waves. Better yet, relaxing and drinking a mojito next to your lover. In all reality though, working, taking care of the kids, and going to school can be EXHAUSTING, right? I mean, isn’t spring break just around the corner? You might have heard your neighbor is taking her kids to Disneyland, or your girlfriend is celebrating spring break without her kids for the weekend. If you asked for time off to take your kids somewhere but don’t have the funds for it, here are a few ideas for you to get out of the house before it gets too HOT!

Beach, please

Literally. Beach, please. Kids love to play in the water, and you might get a little break from them while you relax in the sand. Toes in the water, ass in the sand right? I finally got you thinking. Although most people visit the beach on spring break, make sure you find a spot away from all the craziness that’s happening. No beach toys? visit your local Dollar Tree, Target, and Wal Mart. Get them now while supplies last. Not an outdoor person? let’s see what we have in the list for you.

Movies & Popcorn

Not everyone likes being outdoors, and that is completely fine, but in this case, Redbox can become your best friend for the next. Netflix and Hulu have great movies, but if you haven’t seen the newer movies, I recommend you rent some and watch them with your children after dinner time. No car? No problem, Redbox has an app where you can now rent them and stream them to your television. Not only does it save you gas money, but it saves you from trying to rent a movie that has already been rented from the kiosk.

Theme Parks

If you have the time, money, and most of all PATIENCE, why not? Theme parks will be packed with visitors from other places, but it shouldn’t stop you from having fun. Maybe you have been saving for quite some time, go ahead and take advantage of it, kids won’t mind those long lines anyways (remember to bring plenty of sunblock).

Ski Resort

Depending on the area you live in, chances are there is still snow around you. If your kids have never been skiing, take the opportunity to take them out and show them around. You can sign up for classes; you can travel with others; the possibilities are endless. If you have small children, renting a cabin should be fun as well. Remember, it’s about spending time as a family.

Zoo & Aquariums

One of my favorites because what kid doesn’t like to see or pet animals? Not only is it fun, but it’s educational to learn about them. You can make it a fun trip with your children while discussing types of foods the animals eat, or which animal is their favorite, etc. It’s exciting as an adult to see different kinds of fishes, imagine how excited kids will be?

Playgrounds

Make a list of all the playgrounds you can visit in a week and drive to one every day. Not only will your children make new friends, but as a parent, you get to relax for a few hours while they run around finally. Don’t forget to pack some sandwiches and water.

Visit friends/family out of state

Thank you, Facebook for reuniting us with old friends and keeping us in touch with family members we haven’t seen in years! Take the opportunity to go on a road trip to visit a place you’re probably not familiar with. It’s always fun driving to a place you’ve never been before, and if it’s your hometown, well now you can show your kids the places you used to hang out as a kid.

Valentine’s Day Ideas

It’s mid-January, and you’re not quite sure what to get for your special someone. Remember a few years ago it was about a walk in the park and dinner? Well, times have changed. It seems that V-day is no longer about spending time with your other half, but about the gift itself. Sadly, everything we tend to do in our everyday lives is always posted on social media, and it has become a habit for people to live off “likes” than by reality. If you agree with me, then after reading this blog, promise yourself this year will be different. Let this year be about spending time with one another and not about purchasing the most expensive gift to impress others. Live in the moment of celebrating Valentine’s Day without any mobile devices, or without having it to post on social media. Give your special someone all the attention they need, trust me, that’s more valuable than a piece of jewelry.

1.Movie & Dinner

If you’re the type of person that enjoys going out to eat to restaurants, what better way than to show your love for that person by taking them out to the most expensive restaurant in town, right? Wrong! Girl, I’m sure by now you have heard of YouTube and Pinterest. Google some ideas and surprise him with your cooking. Who doesn’t love a home-cooked meal? Test your inner chef skills and whip up some deliciousness for your better half. Don’t forget to grab a movie from Redbox or you can always rent it on Apple iTunes. Got kids? No problem. Wait until they’re sleeping to enjoy a romantic night with a side of wine or two. And remember, put those cell phones away.

2.Karaoke

Have you ever wanted to channel your inner Mariah Carey? Well, here’s your chance to do so. Take some time to make reservations at a Karaoke place in your city. Go out for dinner and start getting those vocals ready to have a great time with your partner. This is a fun way to spend time together, after all, Simon Cowell won’t be there to judge your singing skills.

3.Go to a Concert

Have you never been to one? Well here’s your chance. Visit https://www.stubhub.com to find concert tickets and gift them to your other half. Is his favorite singer coming to town that month? You don’t have to go out of your way to purchase the most expensive ones. I’m sure he or she will be happy to even attend it with you. Wear that wild and daring outfit you have sitting in your closet and enjoy a couple of beers while listening to some music together.

4.Cooking Class

Many of us stick to our daily routines of cooking. We often complain when our husband’s can’t cook a soup. Well, here’s your chance to teach him. You can always google it but look up cooking classes for couples. This is a great way to not only spend time together, but to work as a team. Best of all, you and your other half get to cook a delicious meal and eat shortly after along with some drinks.

5.Painting with a Twist

Was Art one of your other half’s favorite subject in school? purchase tickets to attend your local painting studio and have some fun painting and sipping on wine together. It’s a great way to interact as a couple without any other disruptions.

6.Bike ride for Two

If you live in a big city and know how beautiful the paths are, make a date by renting two bikes and take a stroll downtown. Not only are you getting a good exercise out of it, but both of you are not being distracted by electronics. Grab some lunch or dinner after that bike ride, after all, you’ll need those carbs after that long work out.

7.Comedy Show

Visit your local restaurant/bar and check if they have any local comedians you may want to take your other half to see. It’s a great way to laugh together, while enjoying some food and drinks.

8.Theme Parks

Are both of you up for an adventure? Are you and your other half fearless? Purchase some tickets and head on over to ride rollercoasters. Remember, the trip is about spending time together and still interacting with one another as the ride is dropping both of you. Ahhhh!!

9.Ghost Tours

Depending on your location, you may be able to find a ghost or haunted tour. If you both share the interest in ghosts, or scary shows, then this is a great way to spend Valentine’s Day together.

10.Camping

Have you and your other half been so busy with work and school that a break is much needed from everyone and everything? go camping to a spot you both have never been to. Leave for the weekend and turn all devices off. Great way to spend time together without any interruptions.
